India continues its steady growth path

INDIA'S GDP rose to 7.2% in 2009-10 (FY'10) compared to 6.7% in FY'09. The country's growth of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in financial year 2010 reached 10.4% compared to 2.4% in FY'09. In the above comparative periods, the manufacturing sector with a weight of about 80% in HP went up by 10.9% compared to 2.3%. Capital goods production rose by 19.2% against 7% and consumer goods output increased to 7.4% from 4.4%. According to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) short-range outlook, India's steel demand maintained stable growth during the crisis and is expected to grow by 13.9% and 13.7% in 2010 and 2011, after 7.7% in 2009. In 2011, India's apparent steel use will reach 71.6Mt.
