ILAFA 2005 Conference: The China effect, consolidation and bets for 2006

The 46th Conference of the Latin American steel association (ILAFA) was held in Caracas, Venezuela at the end of October 2005. The speakers paid much attention to three major issues: the impact of China on the world economy and on the steel business specifically; the consolidation in the worldwide steel industry; and steel consumption forecasts for 2006. The ILAFA Conference was, as in the past, organised in four panels which followed an inaugural ceremony. The first was concerned with the global economy and the China effect; the second with the world steel market; the third, raw materials and services; and fourth, addressing corporate social responsibility.
