摘要

In 2003 the Russian State will end control over the final part of the country's steel industry with the sale of its 17.82 percent stake in Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works - the country's biggest steel producer and a symbol of Russian steel and historically the most important steel producer. Following the privatisation of the Russian steel industry the owners and managers of the steel enterprises have the responsibility for running their companies profitably, but the Russian State still has responsibility for the general development of this economic sector and to represent Russia on the international scene. In this exclusive interview for Steel Times International Mr Andrey Deineko, Head of Industrial and Innovation Policy in the Metallurgy Department of the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technologies comments on the current situation, problems and ways of developing the Russian steel sector.
