Technical Barriers no International Trade-Role of TBT Agreement

Technical specifications for goods represent an increasingly important type of trade barrier in the global context, considering the trend of the gradual decline of other trade barriers such as tariffs and quotas. Since the formation of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the number of Technical Barriers to Trade (TBTs) which are being applied across nearly all sectors which come under WTO negotiations are seen to be on increase. The spread of such measures across the member countries are undermining trade liberalization achieved by way bf tariff reduction and elimination of conventional forms of nontariff barriers. The trends are both in respect of developed as well as developing nations.
