Silver is a precious metal and has been known since ancient times. The early man started using the silver due to its beautiful white colour. Its resistance to corrosion, shine and scarcity created a demand for it both as ornament and as a form of wealth. It was used as currency by merchants. In recent years, silver has lost much of its value as a reserve metal and a traded commodity. It is presently used widely in the production of coins, utensils and artefacts besides ornamentation in village areas. Its industrial uses are on dental alloys, solder and brazing alloys and electrical contacts.
