STATUS OF WTO-TBT ENQUIRY POINT IN INDIA AND IMPACT OF TBT NOTIFICATIONS ON EXPORTS

India is the founder member of General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and its successor organization, the World Trade Organization (WTO). Membership of WTO results in confidence in international trade amongst the consumers, producers, manufacturers and exporters of the member-countries. While the consumers and producers enjoy secure supplies and better choice of finished products, raw material and services, producers and exporters are benefited with foreign markets being opened to them. In the present scenario, WTO is the only international organization dealing with the global rules of trade amongst various nations. It is aimed at ensuring the trade flow of various goods in smooth, predictable and free manner across the nations. The strategies are still being evolved in terms of simplification of trade procedures.
