Cooling rates of 130℃/s can be achieved on 1mm gauge strip in a continuous galvanising line using quench gas containing a 50/50 H{sub}2/N{sub}2 mixture. In addition to improving cooling rates, lower gas velocities can be used which reduces strip flutter and enables smaller scale equipment and reduced fan power to be used.
