Medication overuse in Moldova Chronic migraine with and without medication overuse: the role of drug phobia and associated factors (according to the data of Headache Centre, Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova)

The process of transformation of episodic migraine into chronic migraine (CM) continues to be an unsolved issue. A range of different risk factors are presumed to play a certain role in the headache chronification: obesity, snoring, comorbid pain, head or neck injury, life events, caffeine intake and medication use (1).Migraine could be seen as a relapsing chronically progressive disorder (2) in individuals with a high biological predisposition. This progression appears to be clinical, functional and also anatomical (3). Excessive use of analgesics and other migraine abortive treatments is believed to play a certain role in the chronification of episodic migraine (4).Another problem less discussed is chronic headache without medication overuse (MO), which presents, in our opinion, quite a puzzle. How does it happen that one category of patients with chronic headaches does not reach MO? Except for cases of mild and moderate chronic headaches, what other factors could hamper the abusive consumption of medications? This and other questions are the subject of this study.
