The strong friendship between Dick Johnson and Bucky and Howard Stein helped facilitate American Tire Distributors' purchase of Target Tire Inc.last month.According to Johnson,chairman and CEO of American Tire Distributors (ATD),talks between the East Coast competitors had been ongoing for close to two years."Just because we're competitors doesn't mean we couldn't be friends," says Johnson of Target's principals.
