摘要

Free Service Tire Co. was appropriately named when it opened for business on June 25,1919. Owners Dan Wexler and Robert Wiley would not charge for tire service calls or labor within a five-mile radius of their Johnson City, Tenn., location. They would collect cash on the spot only for "the nominal price for repair of the tube," according to their first newspaper advertisement. They also would deliver gasoline for free, charging only the "standard price" for the gas. And the store was open from daylight to midnight!
