Forty years ago (May 21-22, 1976) the East Coast Sawmill & Logging Equipment Expo for the first time was staged at the Virginia State Fairgrounds, moving from its previous Richmond Arena location. Some 12,000 participants mingled among the products, supplies and services—valued at around $15 million—displayed by 137 exhibitors.As was customary back then, various contests were sprinkled throughout the show, including Barko's horseshow throwing event, Prentice's loader competition, and Stihl's chain saw skills attraction.
