This massive wafer treatment plant's first phase has an initial capacity of 80 million gal per day. With an eye towards future growth, the plant is designed to be expanded up to 320 mgd. The largest design-build-operate project in North America, this delivery method was chosen to foster better planning and to allow the operator to be part of the design process early on to ensure that the facility would be of sufficient quality to last up to 30-50 years. The plant features many modern treatment techniques to control taste and odor, eliminate harmful bacteria and provide a reliable supply of drinking water that fulfills all governmental regulations.
