No longer primarily focused on the construction of gaming facilities, tribes are now diversifying into resort and hotel construction; schools; healtcare facilities; hospitals; roads and waterways; public works; corporate offices; government facilities and tribal infrastructure. "It's a whole new ballgame," said Thorn Smith of ChuskaSahara Construction & Design L.L.C, a 51-percent Indian-owned company with offices in Arizona and New Mexico. "There is still gaming, which serves as a catalyst for many tribes, but what's really hot in the market are schools, housing and health care."
