In mid May the Arizona Legislature finished its work for the year ending a 123-day session. While over 1,300 bills were introduced, ACA monitored and lobbied over 60 of them. The ACA Contractors' Grassroots Network was extra busy this session. Utilizing ACA online advocacy tool Cap Wiz, ACA members sent out over 1,200 letters to legislators across the state. "We more than doubled our responses to the ACA Action Alerts from last year," said ACA Director of Governmental Affairs & Safety Brett Jones. Jones also said, "it was a good year for our members, because they were a key ingredient for ACA to support and defeat several pieces of legislation." After looking at all of the introduced legislation in January, ACA's Governmental Affairs Team knew it would be a busy legislative session. "There were several bills that had bad language in them and we worked hard to defeat or amend those bills," Jones said. House Bill (HB) 2397, which later became Senate Bill (SB) 1305, was the quote-on-quote handyman exemption bill. This bill kept the Arizona construction industry lobbyist busy all session long. Several bills supported by ACA moved through the process earlier in the session and we signed into law.
