Build-Out Begins on Shadow Lane Biomedical Facility

McCarthy Building Cos. began construction on the interior build-out of the Shadow Lane Biomedical Facility for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The interior build-out phase, designed by SmithGroup Inc. of Phoenix, includes modifying 31,200 sq ft of existing shell space into medical classrooms, laboratories, hospital simulation spaces, offices and study rooms. McCarthy is also installing new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems as well as relocating an existing chiller and other mechanical equipment. Scheduled for completion in July 2009, the Shadow Lane Biomedical Facility was originally a state-owned rehabilitation center that UNLV acquired to assist in accommodating future growth within the university's nursing and dental medicine schools. The project was divided into multiple phases to allow the university to continue utilizing the facility throughout construction.
