Growers invest in shelling plants

Fifteen years have passed since growers in Southwest Georgia decided to join together to form the first grower-owned shelling plant. Now, in 2016 the third grower owned shelling plant, Premium Peanut LLC, has officially opened for business.Premium Peanut was formed in the fall of 2014, with more than 200 grower owners and seven buying points. Following a year of construction in Douglas, Georgia, the plant began shelling peanuts in 2015.
