Effect of method of harvesting on storages behaviour of mango

For increasing the sheif-life arid stabilizing the market demand the kesar mangoes were hand picked without stalk and by manual harvester with stalk of approx. 10mm length. It was observed that stalks did not cause any bruises as their abscission occurred in ripened fruits after 6 days of storage. The decay loss during storage particularly due to stem endrot was minimum in fruits having stalk. During hand harvesting of mangoes, the latex trickles down on the fruit surface from the point of detachment which imparts shabby appearance to fruits upon storage. Therefore, the present investigation was undertaken to compare the storage behavior of Kesar mangoes harvested with or without stalk.
