Flowering, fruit set, fruit size and yield of bottle gourd in relation to varying levels of N, P and K in Southern dry region of Karnataka

Field trial conducted to study the influence of varying levels of NPK, showed that nitrogen significantly affected the number of days required for initiation of first male and female flowers, number of days required for fruit set, average fruit weight, fruit length, fruit girth, number of fruits per vine and fruit yield per vine and the crop was highly responsive to it. Phosphorus also showed positive influence on number of days required for initiation of first male flowers, number of days required for fruit set, average fruit length, fruit girth, number of fruits per vine and fruit yield per vine; Where as application of varying levels of Potassium had no significant effect except on number of days required for initiation of first male and female flowers and number of days required for fruit set. Application of 120:100: 30 kg NPK ha~(-1) respectively recorded the highest yield and appeared to be optimum fertilizer dose to bottle gourd cv. Arka Bahar in Southern dry region of Karnataka.
