Studies on the influence of months of sowing and growth regulating treatments on biometric observations in annual moringa cv. PKM-1

Moringa is one of the important vegetable crops of Southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu. It is cultivated in a total area of 30,000 hectares in India with an annual production of 12 lakh tonnes of pods. Annual moringa has an abundant yield potential in a short span of time but it should be sown in the right month. As on date, the crop is raised in two seasons viz., March-April and July-August. The performance of the crop was not similar under both the seasons of sowing. Moreover, this particular vegetable is largely required on occasions like marriages, which are normally conducted during particular months of the year in Tamil Nadu. Hence, the possibilities of altering the months of sowing so that the produce becomes available during the needy months should be explored. The present study was taken up with this objective.
