Screening of turmeric (Curcuma longa I.) varieties for rainfed cultivation in high altitude and tribai (hat) zone of Andhra pradesh

Ten turmeric cultivars including a local variety were studied for two years at Agricultural Research Station, Seethampeta to test their suitability for the agency areas of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. All the varieties performed better over the localvariety during both the years of study. The varieties PTS-24 and CLL-326 were the vigorous in terms of plant height (93.43 cm and 92.7 cm) and number of tillers/plant (2.16 and 2.21). The percent curing was the highest with cv. PTS-38 (28.5) which was followed by cv. PTS-24 (25.7) and CLL-326 (25.2). The cvs. PTS 24 and CLL-326 recording a mean yield of 23.081 ha~(-1) and 22.93 t ha~(-1) respectively have been identified as suitable varieties for rainfed cultivation in High Altitude and Tribal Zone ofAndhra Pradesh.
