摘要

Gore et al. (2009) present some very useful new seismic data related to the structure of the Beit Bridge Terrane of the Central Zone of the Limpopo Belt of southern Africa. They reach the conclusion that the lower crust under the Beit Bridge Complex is mafic. We totally agree with that conclusion but this is not new information. It has been known for over a decade from studies of crustal xenoliths from the Venetia kimberlite pipes combined with seismic data through the work of Pretorius (1996); Barton and Pretorius; (1998) Pretorius and Barton (2003a, b) and Barton et al. (2006). We find it most unfortunate that the authors failed to acknowledge this earlier work. It would have greatly strengthened their conclusions.
