Using analysis to design for drop or other shock environments

This article addresses methods for understanding the design implications of shock loading on electronics and consumer products during the early stages of product development. A typical shock test requirement is simulated analytically for a realistic product. An existing product is tested to develop and verify some assumptions and modeling approaches. These approaches are then extended to a new product situation where no hardware is yet available.
