Swarming of nymphs of Postelectrotermes pasniensis (Isoptera: Kalotermitidae)

Swarming of termites at a specified plot (Zabul, Iran) measuring lxl acre was observed. A very interesting and a rare phenomenon was witnessed during the swarming season of termites. On three occasions, March 24, 25 and 26, 1991, at wee hours (5.15 A.M.), padded nymphs of Postelectrotermes pasntensts Akhtar, emerged from the soil and moved up to 10 feet and then again buried themselves in the ground. A total of 2186 nymphs were collected from the morning columns. The sex ratio of males to females of padded nymphs of P. pasniensiswas 2: 1, and was significantly (P<0.05) different from 50:50 (male and females).
