Net Energy Analysis and Australia's Energy Futures: Financial transparency will provide the best hope for any solutions to the 'energy problem'

The pervasiveness of fossil fuel use in industrialized societies presents a dilemma for which there is no easy solution. Systems such as nuclear- and solar-electric power seem to only serve to replace the recurrent energy use of fossil-fuel systems with similar amounts of energy used in construction and decommissioning. And it is doubtful if any of these electricity-generating systems are significant net-energy producers, and only serve to convert fossil fuels into a convenient-to-use form, analogous to a battery.
