Environmental Design and Performance of the Paraparaumu Public Library

Located some 50km north of Wellington, the 1750m2 Paraparaumu Public Library was opened in November 2002. The building has since won a New Zealand Institute of Architects' Supreme Award (one of only five awarded in 2004) (NZIA, 2004). Not only did the building win architectural praise, it also won a Silver Award in the Association of Consulting Engineers of New Zealand's 'Innovate NZ 2004' Awards of Excellence (ACENZ, 2004). We report here on the thermal environmental design features of the building and the results of our occupant survey of library staff and users.
