Bis(mu_3-iodo)-pentakis(mu_2-iodo)-penta-copper(I) - A fully ordered, isolated [Cu_5I_7]~(2-) cluster

Two new compounds, [(C_4H_9)_4P]_2[Cu_5I_7] and [(C_4H_9)_4P]_2[Cu_5I_7]-CH_3COCH_2OH were synthesized by solvolysis and their crystal structures were solved. The first compound is disordered, but the solvate represents the first example of a fully ordered [Cu_5I_7]~(2-) cluster. It displays a molecular symmetry very close to C_2. Both compounds crystallize in space group P2_1/c.
