Stabilizing climate change entails reducing net emissions of carbon dioxide (C0_2) to zero. C0_2 stays in the atmosphere for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. As long as we emit more than nature can absorb in its sinks (oceans, forests, and othervegetation), concentrations of C0_2 in the atmosphere will keep rising, and the climate will keep warming. And the decisions we make now will determine the planet's climate for centuries.
