Vaccination regime eliminates flock disease costs and labour requirements Implementing a vaccination regime against footrot has enabled sheep producer Jonathan Kendall to clear up flock lameness problems, eliminate footbathing completely and cut thetime spent foot trimming substantially.An agricultural engineer by trade, Jonathan has always been interested in sheep and invested in his first flock when he was 26. Now 43 and a full time, specialist sheep producer farming at Woolland near Blandford Forum, he solely manages anything up to 3,500 sheep at any one time - all on rented land. The enterprise integrates 300 autumn lambing Dorsets with January and early spring lambing Suffolks, plus a small flock of later lambing Scottish Blackfaces. He alsobuys in up to 1500 store lambs each year for winter finishing, as well as over-wintering sheep for farmer contacts in Wales.
