Aerospace manufacturer Shorts is showing the way ahead by designing and building a virtual Learjet 45 entirely inside computer using Total Product Modelling with Computervision's CADDS 5 CADCAM software system. Aerospace manufacturer Shorts and its risk-sharing partners have built a new aeroplane inside a computer, using a revolutionary technique called Total Product Modelling. In doing so, they have shown us the future of manufacturing. Over 500 guests recently witnessed the send off of the first new fuselage for the Learjet 45. It was a significant day for a company whose roots stem back to manufacturing the first aircraft for the Wright Brothers. The factory that developed the product — in a little under two and a half years, against an industry norm of four years —was close to going out of business less than a decade ago.
