The new food labelling regulations that the Department of Health is going to implement in March 2011 is aimed at controlling the labelling of foodstuffs in South Africa. The regulations require that every product label in the food and beverage industry should be overhauled. WITH so many stipulations in the regulations, 'the biggest challenge for manufacturers is that they are required to get all the new wording, as stipulated by the Department of Health, onto their products', said Jane Badham, Managing Director of JB Consultancy and also a member of the Association of Diabetics in SA. She said therefore one need to know what should be added to labels and what has to be removed.
