摘要

It's hard to disagree with Ben Bradshaw, who argued that effectiveness in any community-based natural resource management effort must focus on results. Indeed, we share his perspective, in part, and we appreciate the attention he gave to our article.Bradshaw responded to "Toward a Pluralistic Civic Science?: Assessing Community Forestry" by implying that community forestry must be deemed a success where jobs and revenues have been created, even if the process by which these were achieved was not inclusive. Indeed, we would agree that in many resource communities, jobs and revenues may be key issues to their survival. He (2007, this issue) asked us: "Where is the evidence that suggests that achieving such development is best done with the involvement of all community members, including those who are typically marginalized?" Bradshaw raised many important issues that deserve serious debate.
