Consumers generally trust that what they are eating is safe and are confident of the food supply chain. The US Salmonella outbreak has caused consumers to not only question the suppliers, but also the mechanisms that are meant to protect them. FOR thepeanut industry in the US, 2009 did not start well. An outbreak of Salmonella hit the country, starting what was to become the biggest ever product recall in history. The source of the outbreak was found to be peanut manufacturing plant, the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). Based in Blakely, Georgia, PCA ships its products to food manufacturers throughout the country, as well as exports globally.
