Visualization of the structure of an incident shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction

摘要

An experimental study of shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction atMach 3 is performed. A newlydeveloped nano-tracer planar laser scattering technique is used to reveal three-dimensional instantaneous structures of the flow. Large-scale structures within the incoming turbulent boundary layer and the unsteady motion of the separation bubble and the reflected shock are visualized in the streamwise wall-normal plane. The temporal evolution of the flow structures as well as the interaction between the large-scale structures and the reflected shock are analyzed using two successive images. Instantaneous structures in streamwisespanwise planes at different heights are also presented, thus revealing highly three-dimensional nature of the interaction.
