In the Lofstedt report (an independent review of UK health and safety law), it was recommended that the 'Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981' be amended to remove the requirement for the UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to approve the training and qualifications of appointed first-aid personnel. The HSE has now launched a consultation on plans to remove the requirement for first-aid training providers to be approved by the HSE. The HSE is also seeking views on whether the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) is useful and provides practical advice on how to comply with the law. The HSE is also examining means to revise guidance on first-aid for employers to adapt to the changes.
