Success of the Romney

A very successful EBLEX evening meeting was held at Aragon Farm, Sissinghurst, Kent the home of Hugh and Pauline Skinner. The farm carries 250 Romney ewes (150 recorded) and 65 Texel ewes, as well as a crossbred flock of 280. The 90 visitors who attended were welcomed by Hugh, who detailed the history and development of the Aragon flocks. "Pauline and I have always kept records. In the early days, it was how many lambs Longtail, Parham & Plainface had, now it's a numbers game. I guess I started witha head full of ideas after seeing the work of Dr Owen, Alan Davies & Dr Chris Polge at the Animal Research Centre in Huntingdon Road. That work was creating the Cambridge sheep and fascinating it was too. Also Dr Mike Curran's work with improving the fecundity of the Romneys at Wye College.
