A baby's skin is dramatically different to that of an adult. It is much thinner, has more collagen and is more elastic;it is hypersensitive, highly fragile and a newborn baby does not have fully developed sweat glands. Its skin pores are smaller and there is no hair to protect against environmental stress. Different levels of melanin are also evident so a high SPF is needed for sun protection.
