In order to scale up its soda ash operations, Gujarat based soaps and detergents maker Nirma is learnt to be looking to acquire the soda ash business of US- based FMC Corp. FMC Corp, the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based chemical maker had announced its plans to sell its alkali chemicals business in September, when it acquired Cheminova A/S, and said it wanted to focus on nutrition, agriculture and health business instead. The company's alkali chemicals division produces natural soda ash and related products used in the glass, detergent and chemical processing industries.
