Imerys launches highly absorbent ImerCare for deodorants

Mineral producer Imerys has developed ImerCare 400D grade from natural diatomaceous earth (DE), a silica-based mineral derived from fossilised diatoms that is mined from dry lake or sea beds. The compound is microporous and highly absorbent, making it ideal for use in personal care products such as deodorants and antiperspirants. ImerCare 400D can absorb 220g of oil per 100g of product, and owes its high absorbency of water and oil to the very high surface area of its mineral particles (averaging 11u.m in diameter) "a result of the unique morphology of the deposit from which this specific DE product is mined", according to the company.
