The UK Cosmetic, Toiletry & Perfumery Association (CTPA) has criticised safety concerns published by the European Commission Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) on the safety of boron compounds in cosmetic products. This may lead to a comprehensive ban on their use by cosmetics companies, regardless of the amount used in ingredients. Talks are ongoing between the Commission and member states on possible regulation. The scientific committee has suggested tightening controls on boron compounds in cosmetics. "CTPA is disappointed by this proposed action," said Dr Emma Meredith, the CTPA's Director of Science.
