National Mining Hall of Fance Completes 838,000 Renovation and New Construction Project in Leadiville, Colo.

Early in 1995 the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum completed its latest program of further improvement and expansion with 838,000 dollars of renovaton and new construction of its headquarters in the famous mining cornmunity of Leadville in Lake County of central Colorado. Leadville is situated 10,152 ft. above sea level at a point 100 miles by road southwest of Denver. Sim e its official opening on Aug. 5, 1989, the federally-chartered National Mining Hall of Fame has had a fast-track growth record in only six years, to be-come nthe most important educational institute devoted exclusively to the US mining industry, including coal. The National Mining Hall of Fame occupies the former Leadville junior high school building established as its permanent site in Dec. 1986. In 1898, this impressive 4-story Victorian structure was constructed and subsequently was expanded three times as a high school originally and later as a junior high school. The National Mining Hall of Fame contains 71,000 square feet of usable space on a hill near Harrison Ave., the main street, dominating the skyline and the National Historic District within Leadville.
