Enantioselective Organocatalytic Strecker Reactions in the Synthesis of α-Amino Acids

α-Amino acids dominate life on a molecular level as they are building blocks of proteins and enzymes. On an industrial scale, α-amino acids are produced in enormous quantities and are of immense economic importance, for example, as food supplements, feed additives, and educts for active pharmaceutical ingredients. Additionally, asymmetric synthesis with α-amino acids as catalysts is a 'fast lane' of the chemical highway in organic research: the progress in the last decades has been simply spectacular.
