In March 2002 the CEN Certification Board empowered the first certification bodies to grant the Keymark. Key-marked thermal insulation products for buildings are expected to appear on the market soon, and could indeed actually be on the market by the time you read this. The first steps towards a European mark for conformity to European Standards were taken some 15 years ago. At that time it was not yet called the Keymark but was referred to as the CENCER mark. As a true European mark, the rules only allowed one (European) certification mark on the product, thus necessitating the withdrawal of national certification marks once a manufacturer had affixed the European certification mark on his/her product.
