Rio Says Iron Ore Talks on Hold

Rio Tinto was quoted as saying that iron ore price talks with China have been suspended because of the detention of company executive Stern Hu. The news comes despite Rio Tinto's previous claims that the Shanghai-based Australian citizen was not central to the negotations. "At this point in time we're not negotiating," Rio Tinto iron ore chief executive Sam Walsh told reporters Sept. 4 in Perth. "Remember, we have our negotiators detained," he said.
