SAMAX LTD.'S EXPLORATION ACTIVITIES AND MINING OPERATIONS IN TANZANIA

The S AMAX group was one of the first companies to recognize and act upon the opportunities resulting from the post cold war liberalization in Africa and Central Europe. In the six years since its foundation, SAMAX has spawned three specialized and autonomous companies: SAMAX Resources, the main company, has developed the Prestea Sankofa mine in Ghana, discovered Tanzania's largest gold deposit at Mabangu and is actively exploring a large portfolio of gold properties in both West and East Africa; Graphtan has developed and manages the unique Merelani graphite/gemstone mine in Tanzania, East Africa, which is Tanzania's first commercial mine development since independence and is the main topic of this article; finally Anglia Resources, which recently made a private placement, is completing a feasibility study on an epithermal silver/copper project in Slovakia and is exploring several epithermal gold prospects in the Carpathian gold belt of Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.
