A United Nations Global Health Panel for Global Health Governance: a commentary on Mackey.

The proposal for a United Nations Global Health Panel (GHP) explores another path to build an effective institution to coordinate global health governance and at the same time redefining the role of WHO by creating a new institution at the UN level ("advocating global health issues beyond WHO organizational limitations") without questioning the role of WHO in global health ("refocusing WHO efforts in areas of its expertise"). Panel board members shall represent the whole range of GHG actors. Will this proposal lead to a better acceptance of the "directing and co-ordinating authority" of WHO? There are two crucial questions which I will address in my comment: What is needed to improve the current situation of WHO and GHG? Can we expect the GHP proposal to successfully address these problems?
