Selective Staudinger Modification of Proteins Containing p-Azidophenyl-alanine

Various methods have been developed to selectively modify proteins with synthetic agents and probes,and to covalently attach proteins to surfaces.These include semisynthesis,the use of electrophilic reagents that selectively label cysteine and lysine residues,and the selective introduction of amino acids with reactive side chains into proteins by in vitro biosynthesis with chemically aminoacylated tRNAs.
