Stripping Voltammetric Determination of Anticoccidial Drug Diclazuril in the Bulk Form, Poultry Feed Additive and Eggs

Diclazuril is a benzeneacetonitril anticoccidial with the activity against the extraintestinal stages of infection with Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum as well as against intestinal coccidia in poultry. It is used as a feed additive for broiler chickens to prevent and treat coccidiosis. Electrochemical behavior of diclazuril in buffered solutions at the mercury electrode was investigated and discussed. Based on the adsorption behavior of diclazuril on the surface of the hanging mercury electrode, linear-sweep (LS) and square-wave (SW) adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetric methods were described, validated, and applied to the determination of diclazuril in the bulk form. Limits of detection (LOD) of 1.5 × 10~(-9) and 6 × 10~(-10) mol L~(-1) and limits of quantification (LOQ) of 5 × 10~(-9) and 2 × 10~(-9) mol L~(-1) were achieved respectively in the linear-sweep and square-wave stripping methods. The described methods were successfully applied to the determination of diclazuril in the anticoccidial feed additive (Ezmo~R premix) and in protein-free poultry eggs without applying time-consuming extraction steps prior to the analysis.
