Haematology and Clinical Chemistry of English'Springer Spaniel Dogs With Phosphofructokinase Deficiency

Phosphofructoki-nase (PFK) is genetically controlled by 3 structural gene loci encoding muscle-(PFKM), liver-(PFKL), and C-type (PFKC) subunits. A deficiency of the PFKM subunit occurs as an autosomal recessive trait in English Springer Spaniels and American Cocker Spaniels. The results of hematologic and clinical chemical tests performed in affected and normal English Springer Spaniels were compared. Five to 9 PFK-deficient and 5 normal adult English Springer Spaniels were studied.
