A saprophytic rapidly growing group that are ubiquitous in the environment sometimes behave as opportunistic pathogens in cats and human beings, Bacteria in this group, including M, fortuitum, M. chelonae, M, thermoresistible, and M. smegmatis, can cause cutaneous and subcutaneous disease in cats.
