Immune mediation is one of many pathogeneses of muscle diseases. Four of the more common immune-mediated muscle diseases were described. - Acquired myasthenia gravis is caused by cross-linking and inactivation of acetyl choline receptors by receptor-specific antibodies Dogs are typically affected as adults and are seen with histories of episodic muscle weakness associated with exercise. Drooping of eyelids, dys-phagia, choking, megaesophagus, and dysphonia may be seen. Diagnosis may be made by electromyography and/or the tensilon test, in which edrophonium is administered during an episode of weakness. In a myasthenia gravis-af-fected animal, rapid but transient clinical improvement is commonly seen.
